More information about Widgeon Point Charitable Foundation
The foundation’s original Certificate of Incorporation says it best,
“The purposes for which the Corporation are to be formed are: To receive and administer funds exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes, and to receive, by bequest, devise, gift, purchase, or otherwise, any property of any kind; to sell, convey and dispose of any such property and to invest and reinvest the principal thereof, and to deal with and expend any such property or the income thereof for any of the aforesaid purposes…”
The current foundation is the successor organization to several other not-for-profit corporations and foundations. It was originally created from funds generated by Edwin J. Beinecke and his spouse of over fifty years, Linda Louise Beinecke. EJB was the Chairman of both S&H Green Stamps and the George A. Fuller Company, a commercial construction firm responsible for dozens of landmark buildings. EJB conceived and built the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University with his two brothers, and to it he donated his world class collection of books, manuscripts, and ephemera related to Robert Louis Stephenson.
